Shortcut Mushroom Prawn Pasta Bake

Pasta Bake

Shortcut mushroom prawn pasta bake

A quick, easy and versatile pasta bake, based on an off-the-shelf pasta sauce.  Serve with a salad and bread for an easy and balanced meal.

Smarter cooking tips:

  • Save time by using a quality off-the-shelf cheese sauce for this recipe.   If you cook from scratch, you’ll need to allow extra time to make your own cheese sauce.
  • Save time and mess by purchasing peeled and deveined prawn meat, rather than cleaning the prawns yourself

Creamy pasta bake

Prep: 20 min | Cook: 20 min| Serves: 4

  • 200g shell pasta, or other pasta of your choice
  • 1 tblspn olive oil
  • 250g green prawns, peeled and deveined, tails removed
  • 200g sliced mushrooms
  • 1 jar lasagne sauce, or tomato-based pasta sauce if preferred
  • 250 g tasty cheese

  1. Preheat oven to 180°C.
  2. Cook 200g of dry pasta as per package instructions.
  3. Heat the oil and fry 250g green prawns and 200g sliced mushrooms until just cooked.
  4. Combine cooked pasta, prawn mixture and sauce in a baking dish.
  5. Cover with 1 cup of grated tasty cheese, or more according to taste.
  6. Bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown.

Make it vegetarian

Skip the prawns and double up on the mushrooms for a vegetarian version.

Make it (more) Italian

Make a mushroom, salami and spinach pasta bake by:

  • substituting 150 g shaved salami for the prawns and
  • adding a handful of baby spinach leaves to the mixture in step 4.
